A suspect described by police as a veteran vehicle lifter was killed in an alleged encounter with Karachi’s Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) in Shah Faisal Colony, while two accomplices escaped. According to the SSP of AVLC, the dead man was identified as Dar Muhammad Brohi, son of Sher Ali, and police said he had been stealing vehicles for 19 years. Officials also said he was linked to an inter-provincial car lifting gang.
Police say 47 cases were pending
Authorities said Brohi had 47 cases registered against him at different police stations across Karachi and had previously been arrested seven times. Police said the encounter led to the recovery of a stolen car belonging to the Saeedabad police station area, along with illegal weapons from the suspect. The case adds to the city’s wider struggle against organised vehicle theft, a crime that police say often involves repeat offenders and gang networks operating across districts.
Recovered car and weapons
Police said the suspect was involved in a range of offences, including car theft, police encounters, illegal arms and drug-related cases. The recovery of the stolen car and weapons was presented by officials as part of the evidence gathered after the alleged exchange of fire. Two of his accomplices managed to flee from the scene, and raids are under way at several locations to arrest them.
Raids continue after encounter
AVLC authorities said teams are being deployed to track down the absconding suspects, with the operation still ongoing after the Shah Faisal Colony encounter. Police have linked Brohi to a long-running pattern of vehicle theft activity, saying he had remained active in the crime for nearly two decades before being killed in the alleged encounter. The investigation and follow-up raids are continuing as officials work to dismantle the gang’s remaining network.
