The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) offloaded two Pakistani passengers at Karachi airport after questioning their travel purposes, according to an FIA spokesman. The two men, Shahid from Muzaffargarh and Khaleel from Sialkot, were travelling to Thailand on Pakistani passports and were stopped during immigration checks.
FIA says further inquiry was needed into travel purpose and possible Europe plan
According to the spokesman, both passengers were travelling on tourist visas to Thailand, but immigration officials felt further investigation was needed into their stated purpose of travel and the possibility that they intended to move on to Europe.
The spokesman said Shahid told officials that he had lived in Europe for a long time and wanted to go to Thailand with Khaleel for a same-sex marriage, which he planned to register later in Europe.
Passenger statements recorded during questioning
Khaleel also confirmed the stated travel purpose during the inquiry, according to the FIA spokesman. He told officials that he had met Shahid in 2017, after which the two remained in continuous contact.
Khaleel also said Shahid had been providing him financial support of about Rs60,000 a month, and that both wanted to live together in Europe, the spokesman said.
According to the FIA, immigration officers check passengers’ travel documents and stated travel purposes in line with relevant laws and procedures. The agency decided to offload the two men after further scrutiny of their statements and their planned trip to Thailand and possible onward travel to Europe.
