Pollution, fishing sector and monitoring system under discussion
According to Vice Admiral Faisal Amin, the fishing industry has the potential to generate billions of dollars annually if developed effectively. He said the Ministry of Maritime Affairs had taken significant steps over the past year, but expressed concern that Pakistan’s seas were becoming increasingly polluted.
He said marine conditions were far cleaner 25 years ago than they are today. He added that two projects to control marine pollution are currently underway in collaboration with the Sindh government.
He also said the exercises were being conducted in the context of emerging non-traditional threats. A Vessel Monitoring System for fishing boats is nearing completion, he added.
Environmental pollution control drills will also be conducted as part of Sea Guards 2026. Vice Admiral Faisal Amin said the initiative had helped strengthen coordination among maritime sector institutions and that the Pakistan Navy continues to advocate for expanding the fishing sector to help address marine pollution and strengthen the maritime economy.
