Sindh Assembly Passes Resolution Against Division of Province

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh Assembly has passed a resolution by majority vote opposing any division of Sindh or the creation of new administrative units in the province, with Pakistan Peoples Party lawmakers later standing in the House holding banners that read, “Sindh is the motherland.” The resolution, moved by PPP leader Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, was unanimously approved by the members present.

House backs provincial unity

The resolution states that Sindh is one and will remain one, rejecting every proposal aimed at dividing the province or changing its boundaries. It also rejects any plan to separate a district, division or any other area of Sindh. Lawmakers said there would be no compromise on the province’s unity and territorial integrity.

Any boundary change faces opposition

According to the text passed by the House, any move to detach any part of Sindh or place it under federal administration would be opposed. The assembly said it would exercise its constitutional authority over any proposed change to Sindh’s boundaries, making its position clear against restructuring that affects the province’s existing status.

Constitutional rights and consent stressed

The resolution also called for respect for the constitutional rights and territorial integrity of all federating units. It said any debate on restructuring the federation should take place in line with the Constitution and with the consent of the people. The House further urged the federal government and all political parties to respect the democratic decision of the people of Sindh, saying the unity of Sindh stands above political affiliations and that the province’s historical, constitutional and territorial identity will be protected.

Resolution to reach top offices

The Sindh Assembly’s resolution will be sent to the President, the Prime Minister, the Chairman Senate and the Speaker of the National Assembly.
